Turnout Rug FAQs

What's the difference between a turnout rug and a stable rug?
Turnout rugs are waterproof and made for outdoor use, while stable rugs are designed for indoor warmth and aren't waterproof. The materials, breathability and level of weather protection vary between the two types.

When should I use a 0g or lightweight turnout rug?
Use a 0g or lightweight turnout rug during milder months or summer showers. They're ideal for horses that don't need much extra warmth but still benefit from rain protection and breathability.

How do I know if my horse's turnout rug fits properly?
A well-fitting rug will sit snugly at the chest, without slipping, rubbing or restricting movement. The rug should cover the hindquarters without dragging or gaping at the sides. Always measure your horse before buying.

Can turnout rugs be worn in the stable?
Modern turnout rugs are often breathable enough for short periods indoors, but for longer stabling or overnight use, a dedicated stable rug is usually more suitable for comfort.
